R-Squared Excitement Builds

With the start of summer and the promise of September around the corner, excitement grows for R-Squared. Registrations are rolling in, so Check out the winning entries and learn more about the creative library professionals joining us in Telluride. In July, we'll announce one more scholarship opportunity. Check out the R-Squared Facebook page in the coming weeks for details.

Chocolate as Inspiration

This weekend, the R2 Team will be at the ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim. Join us as we pass out Telluride Truffles and talk with attendees about creative thinking in libraries. We'll gather outside Exhibit Hall A on Saturday, June 23, at 2 pm. R-Squared registrants and scholarship recipients - please join us by helping pass out chocolates and spreading the word about taking smart risks to move libraries forward. Questions about R-Squared? We've got some amazing adventures planned for R-Squared in the form of four unique Experiences: Culture, Customer Curiosity, Abundant Community and Creative Spaces. R-Squared Gains Support from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

We're thrilled to announce that the R-Squared Conference has received a $25,000 grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to help support creativity and innovation in libraries. The grant funds keynote speaker Josh Linkner, New York Times bestselling author of Disciplined Dreaming: A Proven System to Drive Breakthrough Creativity. In addition, the Foundation will fund out-of-state scholarships for creative library professionals interested in attending the conference.

"This funding is key to the success of the R-Squared Conference in that it will provide assistance in helping libraries innovate and grow, securing their essential role in our communities," says Shelley Walchak, R-Squared project manager and senior consultant for library community programs at the Colorado State Library.

Through the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Gale-Cengage Learning and all of the R-Squared sponsors, we're able to provide an interactive learning experience in one of the most beautiful locales in the country. Creative thinkers, innovators, risk takers. We want you.

Are you excited about sharing brave ideas in a spectacular setting but don't have the funds to get to Telluride? We have several R-Squared scholarship oppportunities available. No 500-word essay required. All you need to do is create your most engaging content that shows us how you are a valuable asset to R-Squared – The Risk and Reward Conference and how your attendance will affect your library and community. Create a video, website, animation, illustration, blog – anything that can be linked to with a single URL.

Entries will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Creativity
  • Passion
  • Endorsements from your community
  • Concrete examples of how you are a change agent

Through the support of our generous sponsors, we now have in-state, out-of-state and even international scholarship opportunities available. Channel all of that creative energy and submit it on our scholarship page. Deadline for submission is June 3; scholarship recipients will be contacted by June 15.


Call for Volunteers

Already planning on attending R-Squared and interested in helping make it all happen? Join the R-Squared Volunteer Squad. We're looking for creative, enthusiastic individuals to help stuff bags, hold mikes, organize cords, run around Telluride and greet people with smiles at R-Squared in September. Volunteers get a nifty R-Squared T-shirt, high fives, and good karma for helping out. Fill out our volunteer form if you're ready to lend a hand.

The Culture Evangelist is Here

Another change agent has been added to the list of R-Squared speakers as part of the Culture Experience.

Donavon Roberson is the Culture Evangelist for Dyn Inc., located in Manchester, N.H., where his job is to ensure that culture intersects with every aspect of the company’s internal ecosystem. Prior to his role with Dyn, Donavon was The Director of Service Innovations for OOBE, Inc. and a member of the Zappos Family as the Culture Evangelist and Operations Manager for Zappos Insights. In these roles, Donavon has had experience in crafting service initiatives for employees and customers, as well as sharing with hundreds of businesses how to create a business focused on service and culture.
